Desktop Miner: Getting Started

Introduction

Welcome to Desktop Miner! This guide will help you get started with the basics of the game and give you tips for your first hour of gameplay.

Core Mechanics

Desktop Miner is centered around mining, automation, and discovery. In short these are the main goals:

• Upgrade Tools - Advance your pickaxe and backpack using ores and upgrade your player using gold
• Mine Deeper - Further underground you will find denser blocks and better ores
• Build Machinery - Improve your operational efficiency and automate your mining

First Steps

When you first start the game, focus on these actions:

1. Mine and sell grass and stone to get gold
2. Upgrade your mining proficiency and strength
3. Dig in a path that allows you to climb back up
4. Source some copper and upgrade your tools

Machinery

Refiners can be purchased from the shop and allow you to deposit blocks and smooth them to increase their value and craft ladders.

You will likely be able to upgrade your refiner to copper which will process much quicker.

• When you get to the slate blocks you should be refining before selling
• Focus on improving tools and upgrading your player
• You will not need to make that many refiners (3-5 will suffice)

Networks

When you have a few hundred gold, buy a collector, chest, and some tubes. This will allow you to queue blocks up for refinement and store them once done.

Tubes are somewhat magical in this game, any refineable block in a collector will look for an available refiner and go there, if not it will look for an available chest.

For this reason, if you want your blocks to be refined you cannot connect the collector and chest directly, a successful network is shown below.

You can connect multiple connectors and chests to increase bandwidth.

Next Steps

• Mass refine the stone blocks to create stone ladders for quick transport
• When tubes become cheap (after refining some magma) build tubes all the way down and put the collector near the base of your mine
• Upgrade ladders, upgrade refiners, upgrade tools, reach the bottom!
